Well, Had, I was looking at the desktop version of Bejeweled, and it has rather nice sounds! Much nicer than the web/palm versions, for sure... How about using the desktop version\'s swap/rotate/chain etc sounds?
It also has nice background music (by Skaagen, I believe, the writer of the song \"Catch that Goblin\" and other tracked music). As a tracker, his music is very portable to Sony\'s \"midi\" format (their format is basically tracked w. samples just like good old *.it music) and putting the background music in (at least as an option if you have the space :)) should take a minimal amount of extra memory.

The extra filesize for additional sounds is quite a lot! We\'re using quite low resolution sounds for now. (Also, the devices speakers aren\'t good enough to use much higher resolution).
The background music is by \'Skaven\' - (He\'s either Finnish or German, can\'t remember which. He was out drinking with PopCap and me during the Game Developer conference this spring. He wasn\'t putting too much beer away though, so maybe he wasn\'t German :) )
Tracked music is *not* generally nicely portable to MIDI. We are planning on getting a true tracker player working for MOD/S3M/IT etc modules. But... not just yet.
You realise that the MOD files would add an extra half a meg (or more!) to the file size ? I suppose that\'s OK for Sony owners with biiig memory sticks :)

How about doing it as a trial for the next release (i.e release a 600kb Bejeweled called \"SuperHighSounds_VERYBIG_beta.prc\" or something like that)?

Yes, but for those of us using headphones... they are!

Ah, yes, that\'s it... I was close, though :)

Yes, yes, but the sony format isn\'t quite midi (hence I put it in quotes) - it includes the samples just like tracked files do.

Yes, I suppose i\'m spoiled... :) But with expansion so cheap nowadays... I mean, I just got a 64mb stick at CompUSA for $40, and then another one with it (2 for $40). And you can get a non-translucent old-style one for about $30 or $20 now...

While still being new to Web Acronyms, I get the impression they are all totally made up and rubbish - or maybe I\'m just Rolling on the Floor, Drunk while trying to keep up with the native Germans (Calm down Holger, at least the \'Deutsche Reinheitsgesetz\' controls how pure German beer is).
Howard, when are the next betas coming? - I need some more testing to do, instead of just writing rubbish ;)

David (Oakley) is working on a lot of new mega-optimised code (all in 68000 assembly) for some of the new ways we\'re doing graphics. That should help most of our existing games, but it\'ll take a little while before its ready. That\'s what most of the games are waiting for right now.
