View Full Version : Confused on Ship Upgrades

I come from the original Tradewinds mobile game. I loved it so much that when I recently bought a windows mobile phone I bought Tradewinds 2. I’m confused on the ship purchase process. In the original, plunking down a large chunk of money for a new ship would buy you an ADDITIONAL ship. This would increase my hauling capacity and canon/fighting capacity. In Tradewinds 2 though, purchasing a ship seems to replace my existing ship. Is that correct? I’ve only been playing for a few weeks now, but have spent a lot of time buying the new ships that are available. In some cases the ships I buy are worse than the one I have (which seems to replace the good one I have with a small crappy one). After buying all those ships my capacity hasn’t increased the way I expected.
So can someone confirm the following:
1) Can you only have one ship at a time?
2) Does purchasing a new ship sell/replace your existing ship?
3) Is the purpose than to be “shopping” for a better ship and pass up the smaller ships that are offered?
4) If purchasing a new ship sells/replaces the existing ship than why aren’t I paid for the sale of the existing ship?
Thanks for the help, the lack of instructions has me very confused.

Try Scooner then Barque but don't go any further as they are very expensive to maintain. Also look out for ones with Ultimate Compass as they will avoid storms.

Hi,
Yes I can confirm that you only get one ship at a time. A lot of people who played Tradewinds first get confused by this, I know I did!
You should definitely make sure to only buy a ship if it's an upgrade from your current ship. As Wooller pointed out, the Ultimate Compass is a very good thing to have on your ship but depending on your playing style the other special features are useful. Personally I like to go for Storage Hull or Reinforced Oak.
I can't answer the 4th part of your question. Presumably ships don't have a scrap value.....
Other differences between Tradewinds and Tradewinds 2 - you can only have a warehouse in your home port, although it is secure and it never gets robbed. Unlike Gossamer, LaRoche doesn't bother himself with trying to extort money from your characters. You can get warning of when you might get cargo confiscated for being illegal - as long as you can keep track of the Alehouse tips!
TW2 is a different game from Tradewinds, there's a lot more going on and it has more depth. It might take a while to get to grips with it but I hope you'll agree that it's worth it!
All the best,
Kirsten

Nw=ever tried Tradewinds but prefer to get all the ammo I can and go for Story Board Mode as the Personel and Artifacts can help a lot. Reqularly get +100 on Cargo and Strength on a Barque.

TW2 is a cool game.
The ship purchases exchange the new ship for your current ship. Any cargo, cannon or ammo gets transferred (by swabbies, I guess).
If you don't upgrade your vessel, the pirates will eventually start using the larger ships and take you out. Save often.
A good source for tips is http://www.bubblegirl.net/pda.php. Googling / "tradewinds 2" "reinforced oak" / also helps ferret out some good info.
Calm seas and following winds! RAF
