On my T\X I have a trouble with TW2. On year 1702 - when I crushing port the Game is stuck :( at the moment when Port Screen loads.
I try Soft reset and start game again - Palm got a reset and after that TW2 started successfuly. But after replay - I got stuck again (it look like starvation).
I make soft reset again and try to find another way - go to another port but after 1 minutes play - I got stuck again.
I try to load from another save - but after short time - have another stuck. and again when port screen load.
Could anyone understand what HAPPENED? could you help me?

I don't know what happened, but I like to defeat Ports with Tikis when I can afford them.

Little explanation.I try to understand problem and I see that I stuck every time when I go to the another place on 21 June 1702 and get arrived to the another port (anyone!!). At the moment, when Port loading screen should occur (with sable and "Tradewinds 2") - stuck happens :(.
If it is important - I play for Russell Van Gregor in story mode. For now I try to play for Chris McGowan and see am I stuck again.

Hi there,

The game crashing during the loading screen of a port I have only seen myself during the beta, we thought this was down to memory leaks and running low on memory. This was fixed we believe before the game was released for sale.

Can I ask if you have any 3rd party Launchers or hacks/applications installed on your device that may be using up memory as you play the game? It could be the game doesn't have sufficient memory to load all the resources and then is crashing. If you can provide a list of all the 3rd party applications you have installed I can see there is something on the device that could be the cause.

Also if you can let me know where is the game installed - card or main storage? And what free space is available on the main storage? This would also help me out.

Kind regards
Jamie

about 3rd party Launchers or hacks/applications
I have some installed on my device 3rd party applications and can send U on mail full list, but I think its not a problem because game stuck every time on the same time - 21 July 1702 (not June as I write earlier). If i load from another save - I can play many time but only to that magic date - and in that day i stuck in any Port where arrive.
about game installation. game installed on memory (not on card) and I have 30 MB memory free (I think its sufficient).
The Game I take from astraware site (i think its not beta): http://www.astraware.com/palm/featured/tradewinds2/?skucode=0081-000-0490
Tradewinds2.prc - 4.01 MB (4 207 800 bytes)
tradewinds2-music.pdb - 231 KB (237 391 bytes)
I could send U my save file and other information if it help U to solve my problem.
If U could send me letter on my e-mail: ms.allice@gmail.com I send U my answer immediately as I can.

I have the same problem with a Palm Lifedrive. The game gets stuck after a certain progress at different dates and different ports when the port screen should open. I installed the game to the main memory.

I'm not alone :) it's at least good news for me - not for developers :). now I playing by second character (mcGowan) an it seems that problem is absent for a moment (now - year 1703)
p.s. I just finished game with McGowan (finish story mode - kill La Roshe). so, i haven't any stuck, but for the moment I can't continue with Russel Van Gregor.

I was going to ask which character you are playing. I have encountered this bug with Van Gregor several times. Is anyone able to complete a game playing Van Gregor at all?

I believe this is a bug in the missions systems that managed to escape all the testing done in the beta phase. It seems that one of the missions is causing a freeze.

For those who are seeing the game freezes, could you post which character you are playing, and which active tasks you are working on? If you go to the TASK display (port menu > tasks), the name of the task is shown as the first line of text. Scroll up and down to make sure you see all the tasks that are active.

I was able to finish as VanGregor. I've completed the game with McGowan and Azul, too.

2 Cheryl:

As I understand - U play on Win-version of TW2. Not on Palm version. As U see previous post - all troubles occurs on Palms (Lifedrive, TX, T3, etc.).

I going to agree with Threephi - I guess it is a bug in the missions systems when U play with Van Gregor.

For now I send my save file to the AW support - i think them can solve it.

Thank you all for taking the time to check this out. We'll definitely look into this further and see if we can replicate the problem here so we can find a possible solution.

Kind regards

Yuppers. I am playing the Windows Mobile version of TW2. I have managed to freeze my game playing as McGowan, so I don't know that it's an OS specific problem. I don't currently have any open missions so I don't know that my freeze is mission related. I have missions that I have not yet been assigned, as I've only currently completed all missions given by the governor at my home port (Port Royale). I'm leaning towards items being carried on ship as I've managed to bypass the freeze after ridding myself of a few items. Hehe... I may post back in a few hours that my findings were just coincidence, but for now I'm looking there.

I haven't quite finished as Van Gregor but I'm close & so far OK. My dates wont match others since I prefer to wait for a ship I like & so far I'm still in a Barque (I think) & looking for a Frigate (I don't like Man-O-Wars, not enough cargo space). :D

Happens on my palm lifedrive too, but not on a specific date. Sometime in early 1703, but I always play Van Gregor. An email from tech support today said they were working on the problem.

same frustration....

played Van Gregor... several freezes... had to go back to old savegames... finally managed to play whole mission...

now I am playing McGowan and the game freezes (as described above just before entering a port) on Jan 19th 1703... no matter which port I head for

tried it with older savegames (going one month back) and not taking any additional tasks or buying goods/items, just cruising around... but the problem is still there... on Jan 19th I have to reset my palm (T3).... by the way: memory is not the issue and as said, I was able to complete Van Gregor...

I finished a game as Van Gregor last night. I was able to play all the way through without freezes. It was my second try as the T|X crashed due to another program & I had to start over. I like to stay with the first ship as long as possible & if I remember correctly I went from the first ship to a Barque/Massive hull, Galleon (because I wasn't finding a Frigate I wanted, don't remember the special feature), & ended with a Frigate/Massive Hull. When I'm lucky I go from a Barque/MH to a Frigate/MH & save all that money buying ships. :D

I came here looking to see if anyone else was having this problem. I'm using a Palm Treo 650 with the latest software.

I'm actually on my second game on Story Mode. My first game I played as Russell Van Gregor and got to the end of the story line by 1704 without any crashes. But I played through the missions rather quickly and had only amassed about 7 mil by the end of the game.

My second and current game I am playing one of the other characters but I honestly can't remember which one it as I changed the name. I got to 1704 before getting the crash, but I had only done several tasks as it was my goal to get really rich. Exactly as others have described. Crashes on port loading screen. I don't actually get to the loading screen, but just before it. I tried reloading my last save and going to all the ports, one of them I had to destroy, but they all crashed. I have not yet tried to go back to an older save and see if I can play through without crashing again.

Another nitpick, which may or may not be related but game saves take a really long time, especially as the game progresses, or rewriting over an old save.

Hope this can be resolved soon.

Thanks for the great game though. :)

Freezing is happening here on multiple characters on a Pocket PC running 2003. No 3rd party launchers or hacks. Game is installed on main storage, and with 21.4MB storage memory and 26.57MB Program memory.

Both Story Mode and Free Trade are affected and happen on multiple ports. It doesn't seem to be what I'm carrying, but commonly happens after the $5,000,000 mark.

To be specific:
Ignacio Verdugo - Story Mode - over $7,000,000
LaRoche - Story Mode -- 831,000 (but I have bought lots!)
Adia Azul - Free Trade - $5,800,000
Sarah Davies (custom character) - Story Mode - $2,000,000
Christine McGowan - Story Mode - $5,000 000

(Then I tried making a new user, which had a character that locked too)
Christine McGowan - Free Trade - $25,000,000

All these freeze on my Toshiba e800 PPC2003, 400mhz with the above memory free. No other programs are open in the background.

Hope this helps,

S.

The 19 items includes those people, too, since they appear on the item list :( From what I've seen so far getting more than 19 items at any point during the game will cause the freeze - usually within 3 weeks. Once you actually win the game by defeating Laroche you can have any number of items.

Same problem.

I went to an older save where I was at the home port so I could get rid of unnecessary items, reducing my number to 17. After that, no problems so far. I think this never happaned to me before because I always sold back useless dolls before.

BOTTOM LINE: reducing number of items seems to get past crashing problem.

Hey Cheryl,

You were right! Taking it down to 17 items fixed it from freezing. Astraware are lucky to have your input because you are an asset to this forum.

Hopefully with this being discovered the Astraware programmers will be able to solve the problem, knowing why the freezing is occurring. I'm glad we could solve it because I so wanted to give the game a good review. Now I can! Yes, there was a freezing issue, but lots of PC games have these problems and are still worthy of buying, as is Tradewinds.

Thanks for the kind words, Bubblegirl *blush*. I'm just glad to have found a way around the freeze. Luckily you don't have to carry more than a few items to complete the game. Hopefully most players will not even encounter the freeze - which is good because TW2 is a really great adventure.

Actually, I did manage to defeat LaRoche playing as Verdugo, and I kept playing just to get as much money as possible (and I want to find out what the "Blind Sailor" does), and it still ended up freezing on me after a couple of months of play.
