I connect with my T3 through Bluetooth to the Internet via my Nokia 6230's GPRS connection.

Until a couple of weeks ago, I could get my Sudoku of the Day puzzles with no problem. Now, every time I try (and I've been trying repeatedly) I get the following message after the palm reports the connection is established:

"There has been a problem connecting to the Internet. Please wait and try again later."

I've searched through the forums here and found numerous instances of this, and each time the blame is placed on the user's Internet connection. Yet, I can easily access www.sudokuoftheday.com from Web Pro with my connection. So how can this be a problem with my connection to the Internet? And why did it work last month but not this month?

Thanks,

I've checked that there isn't a problem with the website providing the puzzles, and that's fine (checking via my PC).

My Treo doesn't seem to want to collect puzzles at the moment, which is strange too. I know I haven't updated my copy of Sudoku in a few months (running V1.30).

If the application hasn't changed, the website hasn't changed, then it must be some interaction inbetween that has changed.

I know I've received a couple of Orange SIM updates, and I can also still browse web via GPRS, so there's definitely a working web connection on the device. Strangely another of the apps that I use that makes a GPRS connection (4cast) seems to not be working now either, yet it was when I last checked a couple of months ago.

Checking the web page via my treo, I can get the puzzles to fetch, but not from the application. I'm boggled to think what could have changed.

We'll have a more thorough investigation and see what we can find out.

Could you tell us what carrier (operator) you are with, and what version of Sudoku you're running? Also have you installed any of the puzzle packs?
(We might want to ask some other things, but that's all that springs to my mind at past midnight! ;) )

Howard.

Thanks for looking into this.

I'm on Cingular, "About" reports Sudoku v1.30. I've installed no packs.

And interestingly enough, today I got POTD to download without changing any settings here. So truly there is something mysterious afoot.

....and a few hours later, I can't get the SOTD again. Weird, huh?

I'm wondering (just speculating) if there's a race condition happening where the program breaks the connection too soon. At times when server load is higher, the SOTD might arrive more slowly than the connection times out to disconnect?

Seems like an unlikely design decision, but I'm at a loss to explain what's happening.

Very very weird.

The game code has a network timeout of about 10 seconds, but the game seems to be timing out in just about 5, almost as if the network layer on the Palm was reporting back no connection. The server itself is generating the response in under a tenth of a second, so that shouldn't be a cause, and blazer returns the puzzle in about 3-4 seconds after negotiating its connection.

We're investigating further.

I'm glad (in a way!) that my Treo is showing the same problem, at least it's possible for us to diagnose and fix!
