View Full Version : Entering a puzzle glitch
I have two problems when entering puzzles from the newspapers (Usually only the hard ones). One which is no logical solution has already been addressed in this forum. I understand the reasoning why the Palm version won't let me try it even if it can't solve it. I do occasionally like hints.
However the other problem is a bigger issue. When I enter the numbers and click done, a lot of the time it does produce a Sudoku board, but the numbers are all different and in different places. The ensuing puzzle that was created tends to be listed as easy, when completed.
Is this a glitch that needs to be fixed? If it can't create the puzzle, it shouldn't. I didn't realize this was happening until one day I looked at the puzzle created after I entered it and noticed it was different.

Could you post an example of a grid you are entering which doesn't get submitted correctly?
Also, a quick overview of what device you're using (and if you've installed the extra packs) would help too!
If we can reproduce this kind of problem, we'll definitely fix it!
Thanks,
Howard.

I have a tungsten E2. I believe I have the extra packs installed.
Today I tried to enter the 5-star puzzle from Newsday.
This was Newsday's puzzle:(-=Blank)
497----86
-----7-1-
-----45--
1-9------
-7-586-2-
------6-4
--12-----
94----863
After I entered the numbers and pressed done this is what showed up:
6--5--2-9
---8---1-
--1--28--
87---9---
4---2---8
---6---97
--61--7--
-2---5---
3-5--7--6
Some of the things I do have set in options under assistance is to Auto Pencilmarks, Tactical Hints and Allow Mistakes.

FWIW, this has happened to me a number of times as well, so it's not just hdh having the problem.

HDH It looks like you only have 8 rows here, I couldn't enter the puzzle as-is the 6 is duplicated on rows 5 & 6

Hi hdh,
Thanks for posting the grid for us. Unfortunately, as nuclearw says, it looks like there may have been a typo while you were typing in the grid :( If you could either edit the post or post another puzzle where you are seeing this problem we would be very grateful.
We have been trying to reproduce this with no luck so far but if we do manage to see the problem here we will get onto fixing it as soon as possible.
Thanks for your help and I hope we can sort this soon,
Larry

Though it looks as if the 6s are in the same column on rows 5 & 6 they are not. Count each - as a blank box, and ignore how they line up visually.

I entered it into my Palm Lifedrive, and there was no problem at all. It checked the puzzle, rated it as Fiendish, and the numbers were the same once I finished. Very strange behavior.

Hi,
Thankd for the re-post, I've tried this puzzle on my device here and it seems to be working OK.May I as which version of Sudoku you ave installed? This does sound like it might be related to one of the bugs fixed in a recent update.
I hope this helps,
Larry
