Yeah this game request is probably one that would either take you guys a VERY long time or isn\'t possible, but if it is i would be glad to see the very popular PC game ported. (Right now the highest version is Civilization 3 but porting civilization 1 is enough!

civilization would actually be a pretty cool game on the palm, and i know it can probably be done too. if you want to see what i mean go to www.ancientred.com or www.syrell.com. anyways, tell me what you think of the graphics of that game (which is on palm os, and tell me what you think of the speed), then tell me if you think that civilization is possible.

There is already a port of FreeCiv for PalmOS going to be developed. They are in a early state of developemt but a frist beta 0.01 was released some weeks ago. I don\'t know if FreeCiv is as good as Civiliziation, but this should be considered before developing a Civiliziation version for Palm.
Here is the URL http://freeciv4palmos.sourceforge.net/freeciv4palmos.html

i went to that site you showed me holger, the graphics look pretty good, just from that one screenshot, and they have a pretty cool, and yet hilarious motto \"freeciv is free, because civilitzation is free.\" anyways, in the post above yours, what is \"IT\". oh yeah, and one last thing, have any of you gone to www.ancientred.com or www.syrell.com to download the demo or at least see the screen shots of ancient red?

anyways, in the post above yours, what is \"IT\".\'IT\' is the game that you refered to in the previous post to his - \'IT\' is the object, the Civilization game ;)
maybe the grammar, or emphasis at least, was a little bit wrong, maybe THAT would have been a better word. But as the rules for the forum do not insist on perfect grammar or spelling, I guess we can all be forgiven for mistakes - some more than others ;) :P

I looked at the project, it looked promosing... but the programmers seem like newcommers, not knowing how to make a game grayscale/color etc (i\'m not saying their bad, just inexperienced.) It would be great if Astraware started something like this. I\'m sure they could finish quicker and make the product more deriable and reliable. And they have great beta-testers to help them along in the way. :)

I\'d love to do it - but only if I can get the official license for it. Without that its too much of a risk!
The alternative is for us to create something similar, in terms of a turn-based strategy game. Its quite a big undertaking, but something I\'m aiming for us to try maybe early next year. (no promises!!)

Are there any other Civ clones for Palm in development now?

Had, you said that you would do it only if you COULD get the license... Have you been unsuccesfull already at getting the license? Or do you just think that infogrames would not give you a license. As you can tell i am a Civ addict! :)

Its not that I\'ve been unsuccessful, its just that I have yet to be successful, if you get the distinction.
Each time I thought I was getting somewhere and had a contact with the right person (or at least closer to the right person) a change in personnel structure meant that nobody knew who was who again. Of course, all of this has been happening since the whole Hasbro/Infogrammes takeover, and then the changes in the organisation of the company, its quite difficult to make inroads.
I\'ll keep trying, but not every other company in the world moves at Astraware pace :) You\'ll be the first to know about it here, if the license can be brought our way.
Regards,
Howard.

Any recent updates with infogrammes? Or are they still changing things? Is there at least any progress?

I think you have the idea that getting licenses and dealing with large companies is a fast process... Its not :)
Think somewhere inbetween evolutionary timescales and geological ones, and you\'re getting the idea!
Ask again in a year\'s time - there\'s a chance within that kind of time!

Oh sob sob ;) If only large corporations like infogrammes had as good customer support, and feedback as Astraware, then maybe you would have the license. Keep us up to date if you get it though.

I\'ve begun to create a game that is Civilization like although it is a far cry from a clone. I tried to recognize the limits of the platform and create a 4X game accordingly. The first release is pretty basic and is intended to test out the waters. The major new feature of the next release will be a technology tree which should greatly extend the depth of the game. The game is called Kingdom and is available from PalmGear.com.

the game looks pretty promising, you should try to improve the graphics a little more, but it is a pretty cool game so far.
