hidden well

I'm stuck at the same spot in the same conditions as hdh (see the "I'm stuck" post, page 4, 11th post down). The only difference between me and hdh is that I don't have the metal rod. I'm assuming hdh is talking about the long candle snuffer in the mossoleum. Every time I try to pick it up George says he feels silly since there's nothing to snuff, so he puts it right down again. So my questions are:
1)how do I acquire the metal rod?
2)how do I get the twig referred to in the other thread in order to get Lopez to think of where the well might be?

Hi swissarmyevan

You need to use the action key on the metal rod rather than just examining with the gears icon. That should enable you to do more with it.

Thanks for the hint. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a snag. When I approach the candle snuffer, it gives me an icon of a finger pointing down, not gears. When I use the action key, it still tells me that George feels silly since there's nothing to snuff, and he puts it down again. Any ideas? Perhaps I was supposed to get or do something earlier in the game?

Try using something in your inventory when you have that finger pointing down.....

Thanks Mike. I think I must have done something right, because after following your advice and playing some more, I got to the end of the game. Yay!
