Stuck on Bull's Head

I'm stuck on Bull's Head. I've removed the branch from the tree, and examined the crack in the ground. The gears icon shows up at the crack and says that it would make an excellent anchor point, but I can't anchor anything there. I've tried every item in my inventory on the crack, I've tried everything at the tree, and I've tried combining everything in my inventory with everything else in my inventory. I was thinking that I was supposed to use the t-shaped tool as an anchor and the roll towel as a rope, but I can't use or combine them. Did I miss something? I know have to do something on Bull's Head since I can't go anywhere else. Using the vista button, I can only highlight the tree and the crack. Anyone have any ideas?

Try the Towel and something else.
