the SOTD is great, but I can think of four improvements.
first, a PDF format, similar to the Daily Sudoku's output:

I find it very easy to use on paper, especially printed 4-up, double-sided. raster images don't look very good on paper.
alternatively, a text format that can be imported into some sudoku programs for printing. (I have written a program that can convert text format to PostScript; it's not ready for public consumption yet, but it works beautifully.)
second, a proper filename. when I click the linked puzzle image, Safari names the resulting file 'image.php.png' because none was supplied by the server. not very informative. I suggest something like '2005-10-09_easy.pdf'. you can use an HTTP header to provide this.
third, an RSS feed - perhaps customisable, allowing clients to specify in the URL which difficulties they want. the description could be HTML with the PNG format embedded, with links to the PNG, the PDF, and the text formats.
four, a monthly collection of past puzzles in each difficulty. (that is to say, each month, six new collections would be posted - one for each difficulty.)
