Okay - call me thick.. :)

I buy the cannon, it takes my money, it fills the storage space, but as soon as I leave port my canon has poofed, my money hasn't returned and my ship stats shows no canon. What step am I missing to increase my canons?

My ship had 5 canons when I started and somehow I lost one, tried to replace it and couldn't..

I'm sure its something blatantly obvious that I'm missing. ^_^;;

When you are in the Ship Yard, select a ship and tap "Buy Gun." The number of cannons on that ship, as shown next to the ship icon near the top left of the screen, should increase as your cash and the available space on the ship decrease. Select "Back" and then "Leave" to leave the Ship Yard. You won't be able to see the cannons simply be looking at any of your ships, but the next time you run into a pirate, you will have more cannon balls to shoot. The number of cannons on your ship is the amount of cannon balls the ship will fire each turn (Pirate fighting is a turn by turn combat process) when combating with enemy ships.
