View Full Version : New puzzle is blank

This has happened to me only once and I cannot get it to reproduce, so it may be hard to debug.
When I selected a new puzzle, I selected Easy and the next screen presented a completely blank grid (that would be hard level, right?). Anyway I abandoned that one, selected Easy again and was correctly presented with another filled in grid.
Just thought you might want to know about this bug.

We've had a couple of people mention this - we haven't yet narrowed down whether its a problem in the database, or an issue with syncing, since we haven't reproduced it here yet. Could you give us a couple of details of what your device is, whether you run the game from an SD card, and whether you HotSynced the data or copied it via a card.
I'm sorry about the blank puzzles in there - hopefully you will still have plenty of good puzzles to play too - the extra databases on http://www.palmsudoku.com/ should give you plenty more to work with :)

I have a T3. I do have an SD card, but I haven't put any puzzle packs there. In fact, I don't even remember installing any additional puzzle packs -- but I may have done that shortly after registering (I know I did download them). If I did install them, it would have been with the regular hotsync process.

I have a Tungsten E and I installed all the puzzle packs available after registering. Running off main memory not SD. It's happened twice now.
Regarding the 'Blank Puzzle Problem'
I too had this happen a few times and decided to track it down to figure out what was going on.
I had the original game and only SudokuPuzzlePack1 from the downloaded zip file installed. I decided to play my way through the BEGINNER puzzles to check out the variious options etc.
When nearing the end of the installed Beginner Puzzles, the Blank Board began appearing much more often. So, I decided to solve the entire Blank Board to find out which one it was.
So, to cut a long story short, the problem Board was BEGINNER 74. After deleting it there were no more Blank Board problems. Well not in the Beginner ones anyway!
Hope that is of use to you?
OK, I have found another Blank Board, this time in the EASY Level. As above, I only have the original Game and the included Levels pack installed.
This time the Blank Board is: EASY 137
I have found another Blank Board, that makes 3 found so far in the included addon pack that is in the original downloaded ZIP file (I haven't yet added any of the additional puzzles from the Website).
Here's a summary of the 3 Blank Boards found so far:
BEGINNER 74
EASY 113
EASY 137
Hope that is of some use in solving the mystery of these 'Blank Boards'

For the records, Tricky puzzle 2001 is also blank.
I noticed two things about it:
1. Though it shows no clues, the puzzle did have a solution. I could solve it by trial and error.
2. The reason I needed to do that was because it was blocking access to the other puzzles in the pack. When I abandon a puzzle and start a new one I expect a random puzzle from the remaining unsolved ones to appear. But instead I was presented with the same blank puzzle every single time.
After I 'solved' the blank puzzle I could move on with the other ones from the set. So there seems to be a flaw in the puzzle selection algorithm as well.

Thanks for all the reports here. Larry has had some good ideas what the problem may be, and we hope to have a fix for the next release.
Sorry if it has held anyone up from progressing through to more puzzles!

Hi folks,
Some of you may alsready be aware and have installed the latest version, but I just thought I'd let everyone know that Astraware Sudoku v1.10 is now available, and this bug should now be fixed.
You can download the latest version from here (http://www.astraware.com/sudoku), and if you run into any further problems just let us know!
Warmest regards,
Kieren

Is there a release notes on what changed since 1.0?
Sorry this is probably a dumb question. To upgrade (as a registered user) to the new Sudoku version on a Palm, do I just quick-install via hotsync the new version to my Palm so it remembers all my details, or should I delete the old version first so I don't end up with 2 copies on?
Thanks!

Hi ab,
It's not a silly question at all! Upgrading any of our games, including Astraware Sudoku, is indeed as simple as installing the new version (via HotSync) onto your Palm, and this will replace the previous version of the game, picking up all your puzzle data and registration information from earlier.
The release notes for each game and version can usually be found by visiting the product page, and in the right hand product information bar, click on the version number (alternatively, in the left hand menus, click on "Revision History"). This should open a new page showing all the past versions and their associated changes in order of release.
For those who would prefer a direct link to the changes to Astraware Sudoku for Palm, you can find them here (http://www.astraware.com/palm/featured/sudoku/revisions?skucode=0047-000-0375).
Warmest regards,
Kieren

Have your reg code handy, because it lost mine when upgrading. I'm in the process of hunting for my reg email to find where mine is.

Resending your reg code is no problem if you *did* lose it.
(Although the advice that says to save the email, and print out a copy, is still good :) I personally keep all my reg codes in Splash ID!)
Just go to this page http://www.astraware.com/help/regupdate.php and fill in the details.
If you haven't changed email address or ID details, this should be handled pretty quickly by our support team.
( And when our new website goes live, its something you will be able to go back to on our pages! )

;) Something about having emails on more than one computer at home and work computers made this easy to lose. I usually do use SplashID too, but it looks like this one didn't make it.
Thanks for the reminder about the website. If I can't find the right email, then I just may have to use it (and remember to put into SplashID).
