View Full Version : Heap Memory Issues with OS 4

On my m515 I can't play Sudoku because of heap memory problems (I've had some with Ricochet before). It just says, 'There is not enough heap memory to play the game.' Yet I have no hacks running or any at all. Can I get some help? The m515 has 15.7 MB total memory with 43% free (that's 6.7 MB).
Thanks!

Hi Astraware
LOVE YOUR GAMES!!
Got exactly the same problem.....!!
I know it says not tested on os4 but so many of us astrware fans are playing still on os4 especially the m5** series (i have an m505) I know a lot of gamers with these
Also...sudoku that youve finally relased (and is brilliant, works on my os5 phone - the game though is for wifes os4)........sudoku is just a massively obsessed game........a craze that has spread the world, so I do believe as time goes on you'll find more and more and more people who were wishing there's an os4 version
Is there anything you can do about this?
I'd buy it the minute it came out if it was os4 compatible.....
Surely if its' only a memory thing??
There are many other sudoku games out there that work on os4 but they don't even come close to your game.....
you've released this, and even in version 1 according to my wife it has every function a player needs, that all the other games are missing at least one of such necessary functions, plus of course in true astraware fashion you've managed to already make the game look a thousand times better than any other competitor out there!!
Well done!!
Just please sort this prob out!!
My wife will not give me my treo600 back and clients are trying to call, and her palm (she only uses palm for games) is just sitting next to her.
She can play for hours and i don't want my screen to break, but everytime I ask her for the treo back....she blames me and says its my fault she's obsessed coz i showed her the game......she says this about every game though....it all started with bejeweled....and I thought im being nice by showing her every astraware game as it comes out...and she says thanks and is happy, and then shouts at me that its my fault shes obsessed!!!
I wouldn't dream of blaming you...(the only time shes not nagging me is when she's playing your games!!) but I would be a lot happier if she'd stick to her os4 m505 (my old palm)!!
PLEASE PLEASE SORT THIS OUT!!
THANKS!
Howard

At the moment some OS4 devices with lower amounts of heap memory suffer... This is because the notepad feature requires an extra chunk of memory - and some OS4 devices, especially if their memory has become fragmented, don't have enough spare to run the game.
We're looking at options for this - we'd like to support OS4 devices since a lot of our customers still have these.

Just worth adding...
If it doesn't run, it may be because your heap memory is fragmented. A soft reset will have the device defragment the memory, and that can often be enough to bring the space together in order for the game to run. Worth a try, and might save you waiting for the update!
Howard.

I tried Soft resetting about twice. Each time, the 'low heap memory' error.
Had, I have only one note on the notepad.

yup know about this already
as you can tell my wife is obsessed.... i not only tried soft resetting...... hell, i formatted the palm!!!
Complete hard reset
Brand new battery too (her battery wasn't charging, now is twice the power)....still sudoku won't work
And damn is she moaning!!! I love her but still enoughs enough.... Astraware.... I know you're game developers.....but in this case please by a councellor and save my marriage!!
PLEASE Make suduoku os4 (m505) compatible!!
Thanks!!

PLEASE Make suduoku os4 (m505) compatible!!
Arrr, we be workin' on it!
I'll be makin' no promises, but we hope's to have a future release (after the Pocket PC release) that lets the game play on the more "mature" device!
Are ye sure that the good lady wife isn't deserving of a nice shiny new OS5 device? They can be had for a modest handful of dubloons now, ye know!

Thanks a lot
Am sure you're working hard.... there is no other way of working in order to create such cool stuff that astraware does...so much thanks in advance for anything you can do on this matter
Well I don't know if she deserves one!!
She refuses to use the palm at all... however useful it would be to her.... she just uses it to play games on, and plays a lot!!
So not sure if a new palm is worth buying JUST for games!!
I offered to buy a PSP (which is kinda more for me) but she says no she prefers the astraware games!! Seriously!!
How cool is that!! Give yourselves a pat on the back!! You beat sony!!!
Grafx don't matter to her...it's playability and addictivenes...and nice simple games that she doesn't have to spend ages figuring out...and can get right down to playing
I do have a treo 600 for her..... which is mine...i was gonna give it her and buy a 650 but was honest enough with myself to say to myself however nice it would be to have a 650 with nice screen etc etc... not enough reasons for me to upgrade...especially as it has no wifi!!
So instead I'm waiting for the next treo to come out, or at least one with wifi....(don't want a big wifi cradle thing!! ).....and then she'll have my treo 650
But that could be a year from now...and as i said..if I don't sort this out she'll divorce me!!!
And honest truth now....... I have gone to www.palmgear.com and installed EVERY SINGLE sudoku game there is for the palm on her os4... (i think yours was the only 0s5-only one).....I asked her to not be so dismissive...play each one for at LEAST 10 mins to see if she found one she liked....which she did....and NO...she said they were all DISGUSTING and none came close to the one on my palm (the astraware one)
So well done!!
And considering she only had 2 or 3 days of playtime of the astraware version on my treo... in that short time you've managed to impress her that much!!
Well done!!!
Thanks for replying, and I know no promises....but thanks in advance for anything you can do to get sudoku going on os4....as I've said...and you....many astraware fans on os4...and sudoku has hit the world by storm I hear...billions are obsessed with it...so i reckon your game is going to become very popular and it would be a shame to lose all teh os4 sales on it
There are a couple of games I really wanted, but they are only hi-res....which is a BIG BUMMER (treo600 is os5 but low res how dumb is that - that was why i wanted a 650,, the only reason, to have a big screen to play your high res games!!)
So thanks again
Have a great day
Keep up the amazing work

Arrr! I wouldn't wait around for the next Treo; I heard at the Palm Info Center that the Treo 670 might run Windows Mobile, and that Palm will essentially become just another PPC seller as Palm OS dies. I would get the 650 now, or be prepared to use a Pocket PC.

Greetings.
I just downloaded V 1.20 , and it still doesn't work on my m515. :(
I don't want to imply that you aren't working on OS4, but I did want to add my voice to those who wish for OS4 compatability.
My T3 died, and I do not expect to replace it. I'm using my trusty m515, and I miss my Sudoku fix.
If it matters, the error I get is 996161.
Thanks for your hard work.

Hi,
We are still looking at creating an OS4 compatible version of Sudoku. So far it has proved to be quite difficult but we have now decided on a plan of action and hope to have a version that is starting testing soon.
Unfortunately it looks like we are going to have to go with a seperate build with simpler graphics and possibly some of the more advanced features disabled but the main game should play in exactly the same way as the current version.
Thanks,
Larry

Do I need to get an Memory Expansion Card to be able to play Sudoku with my palm m515?
