Hi!
Astraware's Sudoku can warn you when you make a mistake - be it an obvious one or not. I'd like to see a feature that only warns me when I make an obvious mistake (i.e. putting a number into a field whose box, column or row already contains that number).
Cheers,
Robert

I second this heartily. I would like the option to see illegal moves such as you describe highlighted in red and with a nice 'boing' sound.
But I believe it's already in planning for the next version.

Hmmm - this could be possible...
At the moment the game is flagging errors based on what the real value is. We can get it to check also based on blocking values...
My intention is to have it flash an error and show you the blocking value.
I wonder whether to make this an additional option within the current flagging list, or an extra on-off setting, or an "always on" kind of setting.
Shouldn't be a problem though :)

I would also be interested in seeing this feature. I think it would work best as a separate option from the current flagging feature, so you can choose to only have it flag the 'obvious' mistakes, in particular trying to use a non-unique number in a row, column, or box. I probably wouldn't have it always on either, for those who wish to be allowed to make those mistakes and learn from them on their own.

I agree with warning levels. I guess duplicate would imply that the newly entered value is the same as another value in that row, column or box. But if errors are allowed, and duplicates are flagged, the flagged duplicate might actually be the correct value, it could be that the other duplicate is in fact wrong. Anyway, I suggest something like this below:
Options - Assistance:
Duplicates:
[ ] Allow
[ ] Flag
[ ] Forbid
Errors:
[ ] Allow
[ ] Flag
[ ] Forbid
NB: Sudoku options on brainbashers.com use the words duplicates and errors, and if Duplicates are listed first in the Assistance Options (as above), I think people will accept that Errors mean mistakes that are not duplicates.

An interesting idea. I'll bat this around mith Larry and see what we come up with.
