I recently registered Tradewinds for my pocketpc. After 10 years (not including the original trial) it says that my trail is up. It is October, 1874. Why does it say to register when I already did?

Hi Zack,

Most odd! Could I possibly ask you to double check the "Register" menu option, to check that the game still thinks it can "see" the registration information? Alternatively, could I possibly ask if you're Pocket PC owner name has changed (either permanently or temporarily) since you originally registered? Changing the Owner Name can sometimes cause our games to "lose" the registration information, as the game can longer tell if it's on the same Pocket PC :)

Warmest regards,

Also, found my registration key so you don't have to sen done... but why did it stop working after 10 years? Is the registration programed to terminate after 10 years?

Hi Zack,

No, the registration shouldn't ever terminate itself. There are however a few things that can cause this sort of thing to happen, one of which I mentioned previously (about changing the owner name on the Pocket PC).

The second possible cause is a little harder to pin down, because it's quite rare, and we have not yet found a way to reproduce it under "lab conditions" as it were.

It seems that sometimes a Pocket PC will just suddenly discard the registry entries associated with a particular application, causing it to lose all registration information. It doesn't affect everyone, and it doesn't seem to be specific to any range, make or model of device, and this naturally makes it even harder to narrow down, as it's not possible to tell where it's even likely to occur next! :(

The above occurence might explain why your registration information just vanished like that, and unfortunately the only solution should it occur is to re-enter your registration information.

Hopefully it shouldn't recur, but if it does and you happen to spot any information about the programs you ran just before it happened, or whether you did anything in particular, then please let me know, as the more information I can collect on it, the better chance we might have of finding a solution!

Warmest regards,
Kieren
