View Full Version : I'm downloading

I wish people would stop posting saying "I'm downloading".

Who cares! They might as well post that they have read the other posts in the topic.

If they have something to say about it working, or not working, that's fine, but "I'm downloading" is a waste of everyone's time.

When I see that there is a new post, I go to the topic to see if there's anything I should know, or check out in the game. It does me no good to know that someone has downloaded the game.

I know this will annoy a lot of people, but I get annoyed having to read through these extra posts.

I've vented. Now I feel better.

I agree with your sentiment, but I'm thinking this post would've been better in the Beta Banter threads as opposed to this one since this one is viewable by everyone, most of whom are not beta testers, right?

Angie,

You're absolutely right. I just put it here because it does make me mad and didn't think about who can or can't see what.

Too late to move it though.

Next time I'll do it right.

Yeah, it gets to be a bit wearing after a while. Much more useful in the beta test forums is "I've downloaded, and it loads, runs, and seems to play fine under the initial tests. I'll keep testing."
This would convey a *bit* more information at least.

Don't worry about it being in this forum rather than Beta Banter, though I can shift it if necessary. This forum is good for having a rant.

Oh, and great minds think alike - I know its hard to read back through too many messages going back years, but we've had several other threads with *exactly* the same complaint from some of our most helpful beta testers, complaining about such posts from members who have gone on (with such gentle guidance ;) ) to become great beta testers too.

One of the features I'd *like* to implement is
a) showing a "download link" for each thread, which is set to be the download for that beta.
b) showing underneath who had downloaded it so far.

That would kind of remove the necessity to tell people you're downloading it :)

Had,

I would think the reason for members to post "Downloading now" is not to just say they are downloading, but for the other useful reason. To subscribe to the thread notifications. I have done this a couple of times waaaaaaay back on my early days as a tester. I made it easy to know if a new update was posted prior to being able to make the first initial "useful" post.

Can we get a "subscribe to this thread" feature added the next time you mess with code? I think this might solve the problem. :)

There is that too. It is a feature I want to add.

After I posted that I was also thinking of an "Un-subscribe" for those threads that keep going & going.... Like high score threads.
