I don\'t want to brag, but since this is a place to brag, I won’t feel bad doing so.

I already have unlocked Brinkley in the final version. Who else has unlocked him with out using any cheats? Well anyway you can’t use cheats now, because there are non. If anyone else unlocked or unlocks him, you can boast about it here.

ME ME ME! I have. I first tried to unlock him without finishing the Quest (when I got to level 1-5), and I almost beat it with only two fish, but then an alien at my fish and I got mad. BUT! Then I though and said to myself \"wait, I think you have to *beat* the quest mode first.\" So I beat quest and then got Brinkley on my first try! :)

Oh, an since this forum is about Insaniquarium, I would also like to say that I have the two hi-scres on this website for both challenge tanks.

Oh, I do have a question on how people got 33000 on the timed mode. The most I ahve ever gotten is around 9-12000. Any ideas?

Now that you have finished Quest mode you have to complete 1-5 without losing any guppies. Then you can unlock Brinkley. You have to choose 1 or 2 pets for whatever level you start and them \'B\' will get you Brinkley :)

thxDO NOT buy a carnivore until you have 16000. When you get 16000 buy a carnivore and he 3 egg pieces right away. If a carnivoe dies or a carnivore eats a small guppy, you will not unlock Brinkley.

DBZ-GOKU-

I have an idea on how to. Just have lots of fish (like 5-15) and keep an eye on one or two of them (the big ones). Then when aliens come try and kill them as fast as you can, while making sure they did not go near the guppies you are watching (while also trying to keep the other ones alive).

I ahve been able to buy up to two egg peices and all of the upgrades (laser, food, etc), but I always end up losing, because the fish die so fast when they get hungry, even when there is always food in the tank, I hate it.

Anyways, hopes are high (:)) and I am still trying hard. :)

Well, I suspected it was too good to be true...

I just posted a new thread that discusses a pretty serious bug that can grossly inflate high scores in Insaniquarium:

http://board.astraware.com/viewthread.php3?FID=5&TID=1278

PS I couldn\'t help myself... but the high score for Challenge Tank 2 was attained with the bugs described in the new thread :P

Cheryl

You actually got blue fish! Wanna share some strategy? I have tried just keeping a VERY close eye on a couple of my guppies, but they never turn blue :(

threephi
Feb 10, 2003, 06:07 PM
Blue fish definitely take some patience and care to get in the challenge modes. I have gotten blue fish without \"cheating\" as I described in the bug thread but it is somewhat difficult.

They\'re easier to get in Tank 1 than Tank 2 since yellow fish will never turn blue. Just make sure you keep the aliens away from your adult guppies. The two starter fish will turn blue earliest of course. They will start to turn blue soon after the baby guppy price gets above $200. The game gets much harder after that point since alien invasions come closer together and you have to feed your fish every few seconds. As the game keeps going you can keep fewer and fewer fish alive since you have to feed them even more often than that, and they will die very shortly after turning green. In my best game, I had one blue fish remaining, that I had to feed literally three times every second! He didn\'t drop gems anymore, and my score only increased because of the bonus for killing aliens (and the gems aliens drop).

DBZ-GOKU-
Feb 10, 2003, 10:44 PM
I have gotten four blue fish at once. But it is rediculous, becuase like threephi said, you need to feed them a lot and they stop dropping diamonds, which makes me mad, but I can\'t get even close to a high score as yours. :(

The game is just meant to kill you at that point! It is a bug that the blue fish doesn\'t drop gems when it is constantly hungry. I\'ll fix it.

Cheryl
Feb 11, 2003, 12:51 PM
Shouldn\'t the blue fish be just a tad bit easier to get? It just seems a pity to waste such pretty fish ... hardly anyone will ever see them. I finally got one last night but it was not easy! And my game was over not too long after. It wouldn\'t impact difficulty that much because the alien attacks become more frequent and the aliens themselves become harder to control with laser blasts. At least mine do after I get so far...they are magnetically drawn to my poor guppies and tapping to steer them just doesn\'t seem to work anymore.

The game is indeed quite difficult at that stage, with the constant feeding and aliens coming one after the other. The only way I have ever survived anywhere near that far is by using the save exploit.Shouldn\'t the blue fish be just a tad bit easier to get? I disagree about making blue fish come earlier; I think the timing is just right--not so soon as to be easy yet not so late that it\'s impossible. And I like the strong aliens a lot. What I do with them is push them from behind so they go past your fish. It seems a little easier than trying to slow them down.

threephi
Mar 14, 2003, 08:26 PM
hehe... keep on trying, Cheryl, I\'m sure you\'ll get a higher score eventually... :)

I\'ve been experimenting with pets a little bit but I still like Zorf, Vert, and Meryl for tank 1 timed mode. For tank 2 timed mode I like Stinky instead of Zorf so you can control the feeding of adults to turn them into yellows. As a matter of fact my current high scores for both levels were done with Stinky, Vert, and Meryl. I also immediately quit games where at least one of my starter guppies did not grow after eating the first two food units (a level one food flake is worth one unit and Zorf\'s level two food chips are worth two food units each).

I can\'t believe those high scores people are getting, they are really high. Maybe they\'re playing on an emulator and controlling the speed of the game somehow... anyway, Jan if you read this forum, can you reset the high score boards like you said you would? The bug test high scores that Hiroshi and I put up are still on there.

Actually, I haven\'t seen any such posts! I will look more carefully.
I wanted to remove the v1.0 high scores, but apparently it is not possible with our current system. It has been put at the end of someone\'s to-do list. I\'ll go and nag someone about it.
I can\'t believe those high scores people are getting, they are really high. Maybe they\'re playing on an emulator and controlling the speed of the game somehow...
I don\'t think that would help - Insaniquarium gets less responsive on very slow devices, which would actually make it more difficult to get a high score.
Any other ideas as to how people are getting such suspiciousy good high scores? Maybe they are just really good at the game!

Brinkley does not automatically appear. Once you have beaten the entire quest (both tanks) and finish 1-5 without anyone dying you can unlock Brinkley. You can now go into any level (or even challenge or timed mode) and choose 1-2 pets. Once the level starts, you need to write a capital \'B\'. I usually end up doing it a couple of times before Brinkley makes his appearance. I think he is a little shy ;).

What I meant in my earlier post about emulators is maybe they\'re running it on a PC using the Palm OS emulator/simulator and slowing the game down by manipulating that environment.
I don\'t think that would work: it would mean that the game was very sluggish in responding to taps, making the game a lot more difficult. You know how when you get lots of guppies onscreen and Meryl sings, the game slows down and gets less responsive to taps, making it hard to feed your fish. The game would be as sluggish and unresponsive as that all the time! It really wouldn\'t make the game any easier.
Trust me, I have played it on the emulator and slowed it down like that: It is very difficult to play.

I am worried that someone has found another way to hack the high-scores or something.

Cheryl

I guess the question is how many of those scores are left over from the previous version. I don\'t suppose there is anyway to determine if any of those scores were from before?

threephi
Mar 21, 2003, 03:09 AM
I\'m almost positive the current high scores for the timed mode tanks went up after the release of v1.01 and lockout of v1.0. To be fair, now that I\'ve thought about it a little, those scores might be legit. I\'ve found that a super high score is highly dependent on getting the right break in terms of how much food your first guppies need to grow. This is of course a random factor, with a narrow but significant range. My very highest scores occurred when both my starter babies grew after only two food units, and I know I could have done better in those games.

Regarding challenge mode, Hiroshi\'s and my scores are of course bug exploits from v1.0.

One more thing about the high scores, you might\'ve noticed that I\'m entered twice in the timed mode tank one board. That was unintentional; when I entered my current score I had forgotten what email address I used to ID myself. That makes me think that there should be a system to prevent duplicating names so one person can\'t flood a score board. An IP check could be one way to go with that. Guess I\'ll post about that in the website board ;)

Jan, what you say about emulators makes sense, but it also sounds like someone with a lot of patience might be able to abuse that. It\'s amazing the amount of effort a bored teenager can spend on something trivial ;)

Thank you! I now have Brinkley - what on earth does he do? I see the occasional star shoot from him - is that it?

Pretty much! He occasionally eats a bit of food, and gives you a coin in exchange (gold, silver, or star)
In the original Java version of the game he didn't do anything but eat food - I decided to add a little more interest to him!
